Management and Delivery of Multimedia Tra c
نویسنده
چکیده
{ We propose a scheme for the establishment of multimedia delivery channels in WAN environments that support the timing and reliability requirements of multimedia applications while allowing for better utilization of the network bandwidth. These virtual, end-to-end channels from sources to destination consist of multiple segments that (a) have a resource reservation scheme that is able to issue guarantees of timeliness and reliability; (b) support traac splitting to cope with limited bandwidth and reduce contention; (c) consider data processing and transformation requirements at speciic, intermediate sites; (d) ooer alternative paths for fault tolerance and reliability.

A Brief Overview of ATM: Protocol Layers, LAN Emulation, and Tra c Management
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) has emerged as the most promising technology in supporting future broadband multimedia communication services. To accelerate the deployment of ATM technology, the ATM Forum, which is a consortium of service providers and equipment vendors in the communication industries, has been created to develop implementation and speci cation agreements. In this article, we ...
متن کاملRouting of Video/Audio Streams In Packet-Switched Networks
The transport of multimedia streams in computer communication networks raises issues at all layers of the OSI model. At the physical layer, the main issue is one of providing the appropriate bandwidth at all levels of the network infrastructure, from the local area network to the campus and wide-area backbones. The data link layer must provide support for priorities to di erentiate the various ...
متن کاملFlow and Congestion Control for Internet Media Streaming Applications
The emergence of streaming multimedia players provides users with low latency audio and video content over the Internet. Providing high-quality, best e ort, real-time multimedia content requires adaptive delivery schemes that fairly share the available network bandwidth with reliable data protocols. Real-time multimedia tra c must avoid halting TCP-based HTTP tra c! This paper proposes a new ow...
متن کاملAn Evaluation of Routing and Admission Control Algorithms for Multimedia Tra c in Packet-Switched Networks
Support for real-time multimedia applications is becoming an essential requirement for packetswitched networks. In this work, we investigated how routing and admission control in uence the performance of packet-switched networks. We propose and evaluate the use of routing algorithms which take into account the constraints imposed by the admission control algorithms. Routing algorithms proposed ...
